Extend to cover Machinery Breakdown & Boiler & Pressure Vessel
The Policy is extended to include Damage to boilers and pressure vessel plant caused by their own explosion or collapse.
Explosion shall mean the sudden and violent rending of the permanent structure of the plant by force of internal steam or fluid pressure or bodily displacement of any part of such structure together with forcible ejectment of its contents, except in the case of a steam test at a pressure not exceeding the maximum pressure permitted by the inspecting authority the term explosion shall not mean failure under any test.
Collapse shall mean the sudden and dangerous distortion of any part of the permanent structure of plant by bending or crushing caused by force of steam or fluid pressure whether attended by rupture or not, Except in the case of a steam test at a pressure not exceeding the maximum pressure permitted by the inspecting authority the term collapse shall not mean failure under any test.
Exceptions
The Insurer(s) will not indemnify the insured for:-
a) i) wearing away or wasting of the material of the boiler or pressure vessel plant whether by leakage, corrosion or by the action of the fuel or otherwise;
ii) slowly developing deformation or distortion of any part of the boiler or pressure vessel plant;
iii) cracks, fractures, blisters, laminations, flaws or grooving even when accompanied by leakage or damage to tubes, headers or other parts of the plant caused by overheating or leakage at seams, tubes or other parts of the boiler or pressure vessel plant;
iv) failure of joints;
v) failure of individual tubes in boilers superheaters or economizers;
unless such defects, fractures or failures result in Explosion or Collapse.
Definitions
1. “Boiler” shall mean any fired closed container or a combined container piping system in which steam is generated under pressure
2. “Pressure Vessel Plant” shall mean any unfired closed container under steam or air pressure .
3. “Explosion” shall mean the sudden and violent rending or tearing apart of the structure of a boiler or vessel, or any part of parts thereof, by force of internal steam, air of fluid pressured, causing bodily displacement of said structure accompanied by the forcible ejection of its contents.
4. “Collapse” shall mean the sudden and dangerous distortion of any part of a Boiler or Pressure Vessel caused by the crushing stress of external steam or fluid pressured, whether attended by rupture or not but shall not mean any slowly developing deformation or distortion due to any cause.
5. The term “boiler” and “pressure vessel plant” includes any connected super-heaters, economizers, mountings, fittings, valves and steam piping.
Conditions
If at the time of Explosion or collapse:
a) the load on the safety valve of safety valves upon the particular boiler or pressure vessel plant was in excess of that permitted by the latest certificate issued in accordance with boiler inspection regulations applicable thereto, or,
b) where certificates of inspection are issued by a Government Department if the particular boiler of pressure vessel was not so certified.
Then the insured shall not be entitled to any indemnity under this memorandum.
Provided that:
1. All boilers and pressure vessel plant shall be inspected within the statutory periods by inspectors authorised by the appropriate authorities.
2. the boilers shall only be operated by attendants holding a valid certificate of competence issued under the appropriate Boiler Act.
3. At the time of any explosion or Collapse of any Boiler or Pressure Vessel Plant, the Insured shall be in possession of the unqualified permission in writing of the competent inspecting authority to operate the Boiler or Pressure Vessel Plant.
If the Insured does not comply with the above provisions, all cover under this memorandum shall cease.
Subject otherwise to the terms, conditions and exclusions of the policy.
